Approved Vendor for Charter Schools

Are you an approved vendor for California charter schools? If not, we recommend you get approved as soon as possible so you can maximize your sales at the upcoming California Homeschool Convention.

In case you’re unfamiliar with the term, a charter school is one that receives government funding but operates independently of the established public school system in its area, and in some cases is even privately-owned.

Some homeschooling families in California supplement their homeschooling with classes from charter schools. As members of a charter school, parents can receive refunds for the purchase of approved curriculum and services from approved vendors. Obviously, if you’re an approved vendor, that increases the appeal of your curriculum and services to those families that use charter schools.

To apply to be on the approved vendor list, contact each of the charter schools listed below. Each of these charter schools will exhibit at the California Homeschool Convention. If you’re interested, please contact each of them as soon as possible, since each has a different approval process.

California Vendor License Information and Sales and Use Tax Information

Your business may require a vendor license to make sales in the state of California. Visit California State Board of Equalization to obtain a temporary seller’s permit.

If your business does require that you obtain a temporary sellers permit for the state in which you are exhibiting, you also need to submit payment of sales tax after the conventions. Sales and use tax forms can be found at the website mentioned above.

Questions about taxes or licenses should be directed to the professionals at each state department.

Summary: Every person who engages in business in this state as a retailer must obtain a retail license before making any sales. This includes sales made online and persons who make infrequent sales in this state. If you have more than one business outlet, you must have a separate retail license for each location.
